Betamethasone Valerate BP, the active ingredient in Mexiderm, is a synthetic glucocorticoid analog of prednisolone with mild mineralocorticoid activity. It exerts potent anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects, making it highly effective for dermatologic conditions. Percutaneous absorption increases in the presence of skin inflammation or damage, and the use of occlusive dressings can further enhance absorption.
Apply a thin layer to the affected area two to three times daily until improvement occurs. Thereafter, the frequency may be reduced to twice daily or less. The usual duration of therapy should not exceed three weeks.
No significant drug interactions have been reported with Mexiderm Cream or Ointment.
Extensive or prolonged use during pregnancy should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
Mexiderm is generally well tolerated. Treatment should be discontinued if hypersensitivity reactions occur. Prolonged or continuous use—especially in children—should be avoided due to the risk of systemic absorption and adrenal suppression. Caution is advised when applying near the eyes, as accidental contact may lead to glaucoma. If infection spreads, topical corticosteroid therapy should be discontinued.
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
